Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve will welcome visitors starting October 1, 2024, following its seasonal closure from May to October due to flood risks from the Brahmaputra River.

The announcement was made in a letter from the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, dated September 7. The letter stated, “Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve will open for tourists for the 2024-25 season from October 1, 2024, depending on weather conditions,” citing media reports.

Is Kaziranga National Park completely closed for now? 

Currently, the park is partially open for Jeep safaris in three designated ranges: Kaziranga Range in Kohora, Western Range in Bagori, and Burapahar Range in Ghorakati. Due to recent adverse weather, the park's access is limited to these areas, with specific routes and timings detailed in the official notice.

Earlier this year, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirti Vardhan Singh, reported that floods over the past five years have significantly impacted wildlife in Assam . According to Singh, 511 animals were casualties of the floods, while 336 were successfully rescued. A total of 847 wild animals were affected by the floods during this period.

The reopening of Kaziranga National Park offers a renewed opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts to explore its rich biodiversity, while highlighting ongoing challenges posed by seasonal flooding and its effects on local wildlife.
