Let’s set the record straight. Did you know that India shares its land borders with some of the world’s most stunning countries? Bangladesh , Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan , and Afghanistan are the seven nations surrounding the diverse land of India. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, India shares a land border of 15,106.7 km with these countries, excluding the island territories.

Each of these neighbouring countries boasts unique landscapes, cultures, cuisines, and natural wonders. Let’s explore them one by one.

Nepal

Nepal is a haven for nature lovers, home to the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest, standing at 8,848 meters. Nepali cuisine features iconic dishes like Momos, Thukpa, and Sel Roti, which are a must-try.

Bangladesh

Bordering India to the east, Bangladesh is one of the world’s 10 most populous countries. It shares with India the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world. Popular Bangladeshi dishes include Raw Meat Biryani, Bhuna Khichuri, and Beef Kala Bhuna.

China

Afghanistan

India shares a 106 km border with Afghanistan, which lies along the Union Territory of Ladakh. However, this border is disputed, as Pakistan has administered it as part of Gilgit-Baltistan since 1947. Popular Afghan dishes include Kabuli Pulao, Bolani, Mantu, Kichiri Quroot, Dolmeh Barg, Ashak, Aush, and Tandoori.

Bhutan

Bhutan is renowned for its unique culture, rich traditions, and its philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH), introduced by the country’s fourth king. Myanmar

Stretching a 1,643 km border with India, Myanmar is known for its gemstones, temples, and rich cultural heritage. The unofficial national dish, Mohinga, is a must-try, and the Shwedagon Pagoda, covered in gold, is one of Myanmar’s most iconic landmarks.
