Located a few kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Pripyat was originally built for the families of plant workers. The explosion of Reactor No. 4 during a safety test is considered one of the worst nuclear disasters in history. The residents were evacuated and never returned due to exposure to harsh chemicals.
