Bangladesh Elections: Parliamentary Polls Underway Amid Ban On Opposition

The Parliament elections are underway in Bangladesh on January 07 to elect 299 lawmakers in the country. Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, boycotted the election after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina denied its demand to resign and let a caretaker government run the election. PM Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party is expected to win a fourth straight term in the absence of the main Opposition BNP.
