Israel Dispatch: Missile Flares Light Up Night Sky Over Gaza As Israel Hits Back
Republic's Yeshaya Rosenman reports from a rooftop in Sderot near Gaza. Yeshaya explains how Israel is hitting back at Hamas capabilties by blockading water, cutting electricity and shutting down internet. The Gaza night sky is lit up with flares as Israel's Iron Dome system intercepts Hamas missiles. Israel airplanes are constantly bombing Hamas targets. Israel's military says it has successfully retaken control of the border fence and has recorded no further Hamas incursions over the past 24 hours. Elsewhere, the air force conducted another night of devastating and wide-sweeping airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has successfully completed the evacuation of communities on the border with the Gaza Strip and is conducting searches for any Hamas militants who may be hiding inside Israel, the air force has said. On October 10 morning, it said the IDF had "completed the evacuation of the settlements adjacent to the fence in the Gaza Strip, with the exception of those with essential positions and exceptional cases who remained".
