WSJ Journalist Evan Gershkovich Released In Major Prisoner Swap Between US and Russia, Know Details Russia has freed Wall Street Journalist Evan Gershkovich. It was a part of the extensive prisoner swap between Moscow and US. In a statement at the White House President Biden said, "Today we're bringing home Paul, Evan, Alsu, Vladimir, three American citizens, one American green card holder. All four have been imprisoned unjustly in Russia. Their brutal ordeal is over and they are free. Moments ago, the families and I were able to speak to them on the telephone from the Oval Office. They're out of Russia." Evan Gershkovich worked for the Wall Street Journal as a reporter. He was arrested in March 2023 in Yekaterinburg, Russia over espionage charges. Authorities accused him of “gathering secret information” for CIA. Both WSJ and US government vehemently denied the charges. He was sentenced to 16 years of prison last month. Wall Street Journal celebrated the release of their employee.
