New Delhi: The youngest Asian climber of Mount Kilimanjaro, at age five, is a Punjabi boy. Teghbir Singh, a five-year-old from Ropar, Punjab, is the youngest person from Asia to have ever ascended Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania's 5,895-meter highest peak.

On August 18, Teghbir began the ascent, and on August 23, he arrived at Uhuru Peak, the mountain's highest point.

Altitude sickness requires preparedness for the trek. Nevertheless, the child overcame all obstacles and realised his aim of reaching the summit, even though it was -10 degrees Celsius.

Following the ascent, the conservation commissioner of Tanzania's national parks—including Kilimanjaro National Park—issued him a certificate for mountain climbing.

With this achievement, Teghbir Singh from Ropar ties the global record held by Ognjen Živković of Serbia, who climbed Africa's tallest mountain at the age of five on August 6, 2023.
