Amazon Employee Claims Rs 3.10 Crore Salary for Minimal Work Sparks Debate
A senior Amazon employee revealed earning $370,000 for minimal work over 1.5 years, sparking debate on corporate inefficiencies and performance management.
In a startling revelation, a senior Amazon employee has claimed that he earned over $370,000 (approximately ₹ 3.10 crore) while performing minimal work for 1.5 years. The confession, posted on the anonymous forum Blind, has ignited widespread discussion about corporate inefficiencies.
The employee, who joined Amazon after being laid off by Google, holds the position of Senior Technical Program Manager. According to the post, his tenure at Amazon has been characterised by "doing 'nothing,' getting free money, and eventually getting put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)." He explained that he only resolved seven support tickets and developed a single automated dashboard during this period. The dashboard, he claimed, was created in just three days with the help of AI chatbot ChatGPT, despite taking three months to build.
Most of his workday, according to the post, is spent attending meetings and rejecting integration requests from other teams. "My current day-to-day is saying no to other teams wanting to integrate with my team or have them own 95%+ of the integration work," he wrote.
The confession has rapidly gained attention online, with a screenshot of the post circulating on X (formerly Twitter). Reactions have been mixed, with some criticising the employee's apparent exploitation of the system, while others argue that the situation highlights deeper issues within corporate structures.
The post has sparked a broader debate about workplace productivity and the effectiveness of performance management systems in large corporations.
