Viral Post: debate around ‘exorbitant’ amount of fees charged by private schools yet again took center stage on social media when a man revealed details about a school which he preferred not to name was charging Rs 4 lakh annually for Class 1.

In his post, man who goes by username Rishabh Jain began his post by stating “Good education is a luxury - which middle class cannot afford”.

This post became viral and has alrey crossed 1.3 Million views.

Breaking down fee structure of a school he was considering, here are following details:

  • Registration Fee: Rs 2,000
  • mission Fee: Rs 40,000
  • Annual School Fees: Rs 2,52,000
  • ditional Charges: Rs 1,08,000
  • Books and Uniform: Rs 20,000

He claimed that even or good schools in city were charging similar fees.

Right after, he put a question for social media users about wher one can pay this fee even after earning Rs 20 lakh a year.

“This is price of quality education in India. Can you afford it even if you earn 20 lakh a year? - NO!!!” he posted on X. 

In his opinion, answer was a NO.

In this regard, social media user explained, “Why? Because 50% of your $20k income is extorted by government in form of  Income Tax, GST, VAT on petrol, Ro tax, Toll Tax, Professional tax, Capital Gain, Land Registry charges and so on. n you still have to pay for term insurance, health insurance premiums, and PF,  NPS for an old age pension.”

“At 20L income, you fall in highest 30% + CESS tax bracket, do not qualify for government schemes, and do not receive any freebies or loan waivers like rich. In remaining ₹10L, Eir you can have food, clos, pay rent or EMIs, and save something or you can pay school fees for your two kids ... decide!!,” he ded.

“Which one would you choose?” he asked

One social media user accused him of exaggerating numbers.

“Bro it feels like you are exaggerating numbers! And also purposefully you have picked costliest school in your city to make this tweet!” he wrote.

Anor user vised him, “Send m to government schools”.

Some set of users also supported him, saying a discussion needs to happen on such issues.

“This is a serious issue and needs deliberation on how this can be controlled else quality of education being imparted to kids would decline,” he said.
