Hum is only about 100 meters long and sits at 349 meters above the Mirna River. As of 2021, Hum has 52 residents, up from 30 in 2011. Despite its size, the town is full of history and architecture, making it a fascinating place to visit.

Hum was first mentioned in 1102 and was originally called Cholm. It was an important location for the Duchy of Aquileia and has been influenced by Croatian, Slovenian, and Italian cultures. In the 1920s, it was part of Italy but returned to Croatia after World War Two, adding to its rich, multilingual heritage. The town's old stone walls and buildings offer a peek into its medieval past.

Today, Hum's economy relies on tourism and agriculture. Surrounded by green hills and vineyards, it's known for its high-quality wines and traditional liqueur called "biska," made from local herbs and with a recipe dating back 2,000 years.
