Missing Brooklyn Child Miraculously Discovered on Rooftop by News Helicopter After Parents Report
A missing Brooklyn boy was found sitting on his rooftop by a news helicopter, leading to his safe recovery by police.
A 9-year-old boy from Brooklyn, reported missing early this morning, was found in an unexpected location by CBS New York’s Chopper 2. The child, whose disappearance had sparked concern among his family and the local community, was discovered calmly sitting on the rooftop of his building by the news station's helicopter crew.
The boy was reported missing around 7 AM after his parents realized he had not arrived at school. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) quickly circulated his description, which was then forwarded to local news outlets. Responding promptly, CBS New York dispatched their Chopper 2 to the area to assist in the search.
Reporter Dan Rice, aboard the helicopter, recounted the unusual turn of events: “We were dispatched by the assignment desk to see what was going on with the reports of a missing child. We have seen the reports too many times. As my pilot and I were circling around the building, we came across a person sitting in a chair on the rooftop. We zoomed in with the camera, it appeared to be the child that fit the description of the missing child. Our CBS New York news assignment desk called the police department, they sent an officer up to the rooftop and soon enough they found the child sitting in the chair. They gave us a thumbs up and we were able to reunite him with his family."
Rice and his team were initially surprised to see a child on the roof, matching the missing boy’s description. Their quick thinking and coordination with the NYPD led to the child's safe recovery. The helicopter hovered above the building until authorities arrived, ensuring the boy was never out of sight.
Interestingly, a resident in the area mentioned having seen the boy earlier in the morning while drinking coffee but did not think much of it at the time.
Thanks to the swift action by CBS New York’s Chopper 2 crew and the NYPD, the boy was safely returned to his relieved parents. The incident highlights the crucial role that news media can play in public safety, especially in unexpected situations like this.
