Viral Video: A video showing children solving mental math problems with abacuses and a high-speed finger calculation technique has gone viral on social media, sparking concern across the internet.
In the viral video, children in blue uniforms use the mathematical tool while rapidly moving their fingers as they solve questions during a competition. It required participants to complete the mental math section of the question paper within an eight-minute time frame. The video also provided a wide shot of several other students, seated in a hall, engaged in the same activity.

"There were a lot of suggestions to put my kids in these mental math/Abacus classes. But I chose not to send them. Something doesn't feel right about it," the caption of the post reads.
The video shared on the social media platform X has crossed over 1.4 million.

Many social media users shared their concerns and opinions. While some users expressed concern about the abacuses method, others suggested that parents should "encourage" children to "play chess or learn new languages," noting that these activities "work wonders for brain development."
One of the users wrote, “One of my close family members, who was one of the top ten world mathematicians at a time, told me this mental circus math is pointless.” Another added, “Looks scary for some reason”. "Good decision. Waste of time. Marginally useful in social settings. A computer is faster," the third said.
