Kolkata/Viral Video: A major accident was narrowly avoided on Sunday night at a railway crossing near Khardah Station in West Bengal. 

A video of the incident has gone viral, raising concerns about safety at railway crossings.

SUV Ignores Crossing Signals

The incident involved a speeding SUV that attempted to cross the tracks as the level crossing gates were closing. According to an Eastern Railway spokesperson, the driver of the SUV disregarded the gateman's warnings and tried to force his way through the crossing.

Train Hits SUV in Kolkata

The SUV collided with the Hazarduari Express, a passenger train approaching the station. Thankfully, due to the train's reduced speed and the absence of passengers in the SUV, a major disaster was averted. The driver of the SUV reportedly fled the scene after abandoning his vehicle.

Railway Takes Action

Despite the lack of injuries, the Eastern Railway has taken the incident seriously. An FIR has been filed against the negligent driver. Railway officials are also urging state police to take necessary action to prevent such reckless behavior in the future.
