Agra: A senior woman police officer dressed in plain clothes disguised herself as a tourist in Agra, taking a late-night auto ride to evaluate the city's safety for women.

Wearing a simple white T-shirt and black jeans, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sukanya Sharma tested the city's emergency response system by dialing 112.

At the Agra Cantt Railway Station, the 33-year-old officer posed as a tourist and called the police for help, expressing her fear of being alone on a deserted road. The police promptly assisted her, advising her to move to a safe location while collecting her details.

Shortly after the initial call, she received a message from the women's patrolling team informing her they were on their way to pick her up. Sharma then revealed her true identity, explaining that she was testing the system and confirming that they had passed the test.

She later boarded an auto after negotiating the fare and location, engaging in a conversation with the driver about the safety concerns women face in the city, without disclosing her identity. The driver assured her that the police had verified him and that he would soon be driving in uniform.

He safely dropped her at her destination, successfully passing the safety test.

Activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj praised Sharma's initiative, calling it “the first right step towards women's safety.”

“Police in every city should do this. Become a common man and experience the city yourself to understand the problems people face at night. Good job, Dr. Sukanya Sharma,” Bhardwaj wrote on X.
