In the dimly lit corridors of the Haunted Objects Museum in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, a seemingly ordinary doll has become the center of eerie and unsettling stories. Known as the world’s "most haunted doll," Elizabeth has earned a notorious reputation for her alleged hostility towards men.
Elizabeth, a doll with an unsettling backstory, is claimed to be possessed by the spirit of a jilted bride. The doll has reportedly attacked 17 men, leaving some with physical injuries. This chilling narrative has captured the attention of paranormal enthusiasts and investigators alike.
Lee Steer purchased the doll for £866
Lee Steer, a 37-year-old paranormal investigator, purchased Elizabeth for £866 (approximately Rs 95,100) on eBay after learning of her notorious reputation. Steer, who now owns the haunted doll, has shared several disturbing accounts of Elizabeth’s behavior. According to Steer, the doll's attacks are exclusively directed at men, a phenomenon that adds to its sinister allure.
“It seems like the doll has a hatred towards men,” says owner
Steer himself has been a victim of the doll's aggression. During an investigation in the museum’s bridal doll room, he experienced a burning sensation on his neck and discovered scratches on his back that resembled a pentagram. “It seems like the doll has a hatred towards men. There have been well over 15 people who have come to me to say they have been scratched. It is all men and never a woman that it has attacked,” Steer told the New York Post. His partner, Sarah Carter, has since avoided the bridal doll room due to her discomfort with Elizabeth’s presence.
Here is what else you need to know
In addition to physical attacks, Elizabeth is said to cause various disturbances. Steer reported that the doll has set off fire alarms, moved objects around the room, and even thrown a perfume bottle across the room. During one paranormal investigation, Elizabeth caused interference in video footage, with the words ‘bride’ and ‘haunting’ appearing repeatedly.
Jon-Paul Kenny, another paranormal investigator, also experienced unsettling encounters with Elizabeth while filming a live TikTok session at the museum. Kenny described feeling someone grab his shirt and touch his skin, attributing these sensations to the doll. “I felt someone grab my shirt, and my skin was touched. It was 100% the bridal doll that did this to me,” Kenny recalled.
The motives behind Elizabeth’s aggressive behavior remain unclear. Some speculate that her actions stem from jealousy, particularly after the museum acquired a famous artifact from the horror film series The Conjuring, which features the infamous possessed doll, Annabelle. “Why she (Elizabeth) is doing it is a mystery. Some people think she was treated badly by a man and some think her wedding went wrong so this is why she haunts a bridal doll,” Steer explained.
Steer further suggested that Elizabeth’s behavior might be driven by a sense of being overshadowed. “We’ve got famous items from The Conjuring now and maybe she is feeling a bit forgotten so she is making herself known in the most extreme way. I suspect it to be the most haunted doll,” he concluded.
As Elizabeth continues to draw attention with her chilling antics, the Haunted Objects Museum remains a site of intrigue and trepidation, with visitors and investigators keen to uncover the truth behind the world's ‘most haunted doll’.
