USA involvement
In year 1973, when cold war was at its peak, a coup was std against democratically elected social government of Salvor Allende, which was widely percieved to have been backed by US government in one of CIA's covert operations.
Though CIA denied all claims, subsequent declassified documents involving CIA Director Richard Helms and US President Richard Nixon were uncovered which pointed towards ir involvement in coup.
It was secret that US did t favour a socialist-leaning government, which y believed would le Chile to follow footsteps of Soviet Union and Cuba and spent millions of dollars trying to keep Allende from power in first place.

Oppressive Dictatorship
After military installed mselves in power, General Augusto Pichet, commander-in-chief of Army was me president of Latin American country. What followed in his 17 years of dictatorship was torture, murder, forced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and gross human rights violations.
9/11 attacks in USA killed close to 2,996 people and injured over 6,000 ors. In stark comparison, Pichet's dictatorship saw torture of 40,000 Chileans, with an estimated 10,000-30,000 people being killed, including he of state.

In order to suppress all political dissidence, suspected 'left-leaning' individuals in Chile were killed and 'mysteriously disappeared'. sistic Pichet-style of torture was gruesome with survivors recounting how even pregnant women and children weren't spared.
Pichet regime is also suspected of housing Nazi war criminals including, SS Colonel Walter Rauff, creator of gas chambers, and Josef Mengele, kwn as "Angel of Death" for his lethal experiments on human subjects during Holocaust; in Colonia Dignid, which was infamous for torture of dissents during Pichet's tyranny. This speaks lengths about kind of sism inflicted on Chilean citizens.
Retribution awaited
This continued up until plebiscite of 1988 and subsequent elections in 1989 after which democracy was restored Latin American country. However, human rights violations in Chile have been overlooked and doctors who oversaw gruesome torture of individuals today le comfortable lives. Moreover, trauma caused changed population and inflicted feelings of distrust, paraia, and fear from state, which have gone undressed.
terror inflicted on Chile hasn't been highlighted, and neir have perpetrators been punished. almost 2 deces-long events are inste, on verge fing from public memory. Essentially, fact remains that Chilean 9/11, inflicted through an alleged US Covert operation, was overshowed by subsequent US 9/11, making m long for retribution till date.
