Abdullah Abdullah to visit India amid stalled Afghan peace talks with Taliban

Abdullah will reportedly meet with top Indian officials to discuss peace process and bilateral relations between Afghanistan and India.
" aim of trip is to attract support for Afghan peace and strengn regional consensus. Dr Abdullah Abdullah will meet with Indian officials on Afghan peace and bilateral relations between Afghanistan and India," Abdullah's spokesperson Fraidoon Khwazoon was quoted as saying by ANI.

Abdullah’s visit comes at a time when Afghanistan government and Taliban are trying to achieve a consensus on a peace deal. intra-Afghan negotiations kicked off in Doha under chairmanship of Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During opening ceremony, Abdullah thanked Taliban for showing “willingness to negotiate” to end 19 years of war.
spotlight from peace talks has fed after lavish opening ceremony on September 12 as Afghan government and Taliban continue to disagree on even basic issues. Last month, Special US Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation said that level of violation is unacceptably high with possibility of furr setbacks during talks.

“By any measure, current levels of violence are too high,” special envoy Zalmay Khalilz told a Congressional hearing.

India's involvement
On September 15, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held extensive talks about Afghan peace process with special envoy in presence of National Security visor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla. Khalilz stated that US greatly appreciates India's contributions to Afghan peace process and shared American perspective on ongoing peace talks. Before arriving in India, US envoy h visited Islamab where he discussed Afghan peace process with Pakistan Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.
