Upcoming Tamil film Adithya Varma's lead actress Banita Sandhu expressed in an interview that she had some issues with how the female characters were portrayed in Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy. The two commercial successes were accused of being ‘misogynistic’ and showed the treatment of women in poor light. To this, Banita said that the makers of Adithya Varma, however, discussed and executed her character with more 'autonomy and agency.'

Banita Sandhu was last seen in October, starring opposite Varun Dhavan. She is new to the industry, but despite that, the makers of Adithya Varma addressed the controversial points of both the versions- Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy raised by her. Further discussing the issue, she addressed that the film is not perfect. She also said that these films needed alterations as she herself had issues while watching it on the big screen. She closely discussed her film's script with the directors and co-actor Dhruv Vikram as well. She recalls the fact that Vikram himself made it a point that Banita’s character has more autonomy. She said in the interview that she feels blessed for the fact that people listened to her.

She further mentioned in the interview that she has a lot of young girls who follow her on Instagram. She wanted to project her role in a good light and not glorify a toxic relationship. She said that despite Adithya Varma’s bad character depiction in the film, the storyline required him to act in a certain way. Her discussions regarding the toning down of controversial scenes were fruitful. Adithya Varma is slated to release on November 21.
