Afghan National Resistance Front urged United States on Monday to investigate its former top ambassor to Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilz, over alleged "dealings" with Taliban. This comes nearly two months after United States withdrew from war-torn country in a "chaotic" manner. Khalilz was in charge of talks with Taliban in Qatar, which resulted in Doha Agreement with US troops to leave by May 2021.

Ali Nazary, foreign relations chief of National Resistance Front, took to Twitter and said, " US gov't should conduct a thorough investigation of Zalmay Khalilz's backdoor deals w/ Taliban crime syndicate. For past 3 years he betrayed both Afghanistan & US by legitimizing a terrorist group & giving too many concessions without anything tangible in return [sic]."

In a letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Khalilz allegedly conceded that political agreement between Taliban and Afghan government "did t go forward as planned." " reasons behind this are far too complicated to discuss here, but I shall do so in coming days and weeks," he wrote in letter as reported by BBC News. Meanwhile, on Monday, Khalilz stepped down from his role and his deputy Tomas West will be Special Representative for Afghanistan, stated US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. 70-year-old Khalilz was born and brought up in Kabul. He is a seasoned US diplomat who served in different capacities under former Presidents George W Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

Blinken expresses gratitude to Khalilz for services

Blinken also thanked Khalilz for his "deces of tireless service to United States." It should be mentioned here that Khalilz h opted to resign in May after President Joe Biden anunced withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan. His resignation comes amid State Department Inspector General's anuncement to launch a series of investigations into US' "chaotic" withdrawal from Afghanistan.
