After COVID-19, China reports Brucellosis outbreak; 3,245 people test positive

After coronavirus outbreak, China w has ar infectious disease outbreak in rthwest region as reported by authorities on Tuesday. Brucellosis outbreak was caused by a leak in a biopharmaceutical factory last year. A total of 3,245 people have tested positive for this bacterial disease which is caused by consuming unpasteurized milk or undercooked meat from an animal infected with brucella bacteria. Brucellosis is also kwn as Mediterranean fever which causes symptoms like profuse sweating and joint & muscle pain among or things. 

Brucellosis outbreak in China 

According to international media reports, Health Commission of Lanzhou of capital city of Gansu province has 3,245 confirmed cases of brucellosis infection caused due to leak in biopharmaceutical factory. While deaths have been reported due to brucella bacteria infection, in a preliminary test, 1,401 people have tested positive out of 21,847 who have been tested by health officials as per media reports.

How did Mediterranean fever outbreak occur?

According to international media report, China's Zhongmu Lanzhou biological pharmaceutical factory was working on finding a vaccine against brucella bacteria to use for animal. In span between July to August 2019, biopharmaceutical factory failed to ericate bacteria in waste gas after y used expired disinfectants and sanitizers. Leaked into air, waste gas formed aerosols which contained bacteria and infected Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute as per reports. LVRI began reporting brucellosis infections from vember onwards which n spre furr according to Chinese media reports.

A public apology was rendered by biopharmaceutical factory for leak and people responsible were reportedly punished as well. As per media reports, company promised those affected by brucella bacteria a compensation. biopharmaceutical company also promised to cooperate and aid in cleanup effort.

Mediterranean fever caused by brucella bacteria was a common problem in China in 1980s. bacterial disease was soon brought under control with help of vaccines and health & safety protocols. This infectious bacterial disease kwn as Brucellosis or Mediterranean fever can affect humans after y ingest brucella bacteria and cause symptoms like fever, malaise, heaches, muscle pain, fatigue.
