Rajinikanth backed Suriya's controversial comment about Centre’s new education policy draft, after Kamal Haasan had also expressed his support to the ‘Ghajini’ actor.

The new education policy draft, which was released by the HRD a month back, created a massive outrage politically as Hindi was made the third compulsory language, whereas the state of Tamil Nadu has been following the two-language system. Hence, Tamil parties including DMK raised the issue in a big way after which policy was revised.

Amid the controversy over the draft, Tamil actor Suriya, who is running Agaram Foundation, an NGO initiated to educate the economically backward students, at the trust's event last week, criticised the HRD's draft policy and said that it'll not help the poor from rural areas and only the economically well-off students in the urban areas were to gain from it. He also spoke about the disadvantages of the widely-debated NEET exam, which also sparked a row.

A day after his comment about the new education policy, BJP leaders like Tamilisai Soundararajan and H Raja as well as AIADMK ministers like Jayakumar and Kadambur Raju started lashing out at Suriya. They called him ignorant and asked him to refrain from commenting without understanding the policy.

Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan immediately gave out a statement, supporting Suriya and stated that what he had said is right and must be introspected.

However, the real surprise was when Superstar Rajinikanth also spoke against the draft policy of HRD. Rajinikanth, who participated in Suriya’s ‘Kaapaan’ audio launch function in Chennai, supported Suriya's comment on the new education policy.

Rajinikanth said "I second what Suriya said about the new education policy. I got to know about this side of Suriya just few days ago. People say that Modi will hear when I speak. But this time, Modi heard Suriya's speech. Suriya is witnessing the hardships of students and he is helping them in many ways."

This was a big surprise for everyone as Rajinikanth, who has announced his political entry and waits to start a party, is seen someone close to the BJP. The veteran criticising the Centre's policy and backing an actor who lashed the policy of HRD, has raised eyebrows.

Meanwhile, Suriya expressed his gratitude to Rajinikanth for attending his film’s event with a tweet and termed it as a ‘life time memory.’
