Angela Merkel asks China to provide greater reciprocity to EU businesses

Angela Merkel has warned China that the European Union will start limiting access for Chinese companies if Beijing doesn't move to provide greater reciprocity.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned China that European Union will start limiting access for Chinese companies if Beijing doesn't move to provide greater reciprocity to bloc. Merkel's comment came during recently concluded EU summit in Brussels, where European leader said that EU expects same kind of access for its companies in China as Chinese companies enjoy in single market.

"If re is market access from Chinese side for certain areas, this will of course also be reflected in fact that market access to European market will be narrower," Merkel was quoted as saying by South China Morning Post after two-day summit concluded in Brussels. Before start of EU summit, Merkel had slammed China in German parliament for gross human rights violations in Hong Kong and undermining of rights of mirities in country.

According to South China Morning Post, EU also formally agreed to restrict "high risk" companies from building 5G techlogy, a move that will cause trouble for Chinese telecom giant Huawei. move will also bring joy to United States, which was lobbying for past several months to convince its NATO allies and or countries to ban Huawei from developing 5G techlogy in ir respective countries, calling it a security risk for all.

Meeting to discuss China

According to report, Merkel will chair a meeting in vember this year to discuss China with all 27 members of European Union. meeting will particularly discuss trade barriers put in place by China for EU businesses. meeting is scheduled because EU members did t get eugh time to discuss China during latest summit as y were busy talking about regional tensions, including Greece and Turkey.
