Argentinian musicians unite to lift spirits
A musical collaboration of some of Argentina's best known musicians rang out Thursday night as the artists came together for a virtual jam session in the midst of the country's lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

A musical collaboration of some of Argentina's best known musicians rang out Thursday night as the artists came together for a virtual jam session in the midst of the country's lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
More than 30 artists, representing genres from folk to tango or rock, joined in the solidarity effort organised by local non-governmental organization Argentine Solidarity Network.

The online video of the event shows each one of the singers taking charge of a particular phrase of 'Como La Cigarra' (Like The Cicada) by late Argentine songwriter Maria Elena Walsh.
The musical gathering is just one of a number of events that have been put on to reach the homes of the Argentines and calling for togetherness during the country's lockdown.

Throughout Buenos Aires every evening at 9pm (00:00 GMT) a chorus of applause can be heard as people joining together to show support for the country's medical staff.
During a broadcast interview that took place at the same time as the virtual performance, President Alberto Fernandez considered the artistic initiative a "tender caress to the soul."

To date, Argentina has 589 confirmed cases of the coronoavirus and a tally of 12 dead.
The South American country officially closed its borders at midnight.
