In a significant development, Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to a ceasefire starting on October 10 midnight and “substantive” talks over contested region of Nagor-Karabakh, Russin foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

breakthrough came after Russia brokered 10-hour long peace talks between two erstwhile Soviet states. A  violent conflict between two nations started on September 27 and has since n resulted in deaths of hundreds of people.

According to Al Jazeera, both parties agreed to a “humanitarian ceasefire”. top diplomats from both countries said in a statement that truce is intended to exchange prisoners and recover de, ding that specific details will be agreed on later, Associated Press reported.

Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict 

new fight, which erupted on September 27, is considered to be heaviest in deces. Hundreds of people have been killed in past week, including over 40 civilians. With fears of clashes expanding into an all-out multi-front war, global leers were daunted at possibility of fighting spilling over to or regional powers — Turkey and Russia. While Ankara is Azerbaijan’s strongest supporter, Moscow, on or hand, has a military base in Armenia. Earlier, Armenia even accused Turkey of supplying fighters to conflict out of rrn-Syria. 

Meanwhile, thousands of people are fleeing to sourn Armenia to escape conflict in region. Foot from British brocaster Sky News showed ethnic Armenians arriving in  Goris on October 4 carrying all ir possessions as men left for front lines.
