Armenian cathedral damaged due to shelling in Karabakh, Azerbaijan denies attack

Armenia on October 8 held Azerbaijan responsible for the shelling of a historic cathedral, known as the Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Armenia on October 8 held Azerbaijan responsible for shelling of a historic cadral, kwn as Ghazanchetsots Cadral, in disputed Nagor-Karabakh region. According to reports by AP, some children were inside cadral at time of shelling and suffered from stress after attack. A new conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan  began on September 27 and is being considered to be heaviest in deces. Hundreds of people have been killed in past week, including over 40 civilians.

As per Armenian officials, 2 Russian journalists were wounded during shelling and one of m was under serious condition and rushed to hospital. Armenian Foreign Ministry criticized shelling as a “monstrous crime and a challenge to civilized humankind”. Far Andreas, who is a priest at Cadral said, “I feel pain that walls of our beautiful cadral are destroyed,” he said. “I feel pain that today world does t react to what’s happening here and that our boys are dying defending our Morland”.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry has denied posing any attack on religious place as y said that its army “doesn’t target historical, cultural and, especially, religious buildings and monuments”. fight between two countries has raised international concern about stability in South Caucasus, where pipelines carry Azeri oil and gas to world markets. re have also been fears of clashes expanding into a multi-front war. While Ankara is Azerbaijan’s strongest supporter, Moscow, on or hand, has a military base in Armenia.

Recently, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has urged international community to recognize independence of Nagor-Karabakh.  Armenian Prime Minister stated that international community must act swiftly in order to avoid escalation of conflict in region and in that regard y should recognise Nagor-Karabakh’s independence. tensions between two countries have reached point that Azerbaijan has declared a state of emergency near border area while Armenia has declared a nationwide emergency and mobilized its male population.
