As one of the most powerful thunderstorms of Hurricane Dorian continued its violent grip in the Bahamas on Monday, September 2, Chella Phillips opened her home in Nassau for 97 homeless and abandoned dogs. Chella shared the information on through a Facebook post describing her experience with 97 dogs in her house, and 79 of them inside her master bedroom. They barricaded the refuge and did not let anybody outside. Chella runs a dog rescue called The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas.
Home for 97 dogs
Through social media, Chella Phillips also informed how she has kept the air conditioning of the house on, along with music playing in all directions. People have also donated crates that were necessary for looking after sick and scared animals. The Bahamas, similar to other islands has an abundance of homeless dogs. The day Chella decided to open the doors of her house for so many dogs, it also marked the fourth anniversary of her refuge. They have cared for approximately 1,000 abandoned dogs.
Chella confirmed on her page that all dogs were getting along with each other, well and were welcoming of newcomers. 'The dogs are not selfish like humans and they do not mistreat or abuse anyone.' she was quoted saying in her post. Chella further explainedthat all the animals simply passed by each other without causing any problems. She expressed her sadness about the other stranded animals on the streets and added that they all deserve to have loving homes.

As the news of Chella opening her home to nearly 100 stray dogs spread on the Internet, netizens have not stopped applauding Chella Phillips for her actions. People are shocked yet proud of the woman and some of them also believe that Chella deserved to be on the receiving end of all the viral attention coming her way. People believe that the world needed to know about all the help she is providing to the dogs in order to be able to continue her efforts in the best way possible.
Some people also called Chella Phillips as “The Dog Angel”. One of her friends also announced to the public that Chella will never ask for any donation but she might use it for the dogs. The friend also told everyone about her car, which is old and needs repairs Chella will never spend the donated money on the car, but she needs a better vehicle to drive the dogs around. People have also hoped for a brighter future for the rescue home.
How are the dogs now?
According to Chella, the 97 rescued dogs are safe and have successfully braved the Hurricane Dorian so far. While the water was coming through the windows and doors, Chella tried to play with the dogs and sing to them in order to keep their mind off the storm. Many dog houses, tents, crates that were damaged due to the storm are being rebuilt now.
