Australian media companies strike deal with Google

Australia's Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has praised the deals struck this week between Channel 7 and Channel 9 with tech giant Google pay for original content, describing it as an "historic moment" and a "world first."

Australia's Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has praised the deals struck this week between Channel 7 and Channel 9 with tech giant Google pay for original content, describing it as an "historic moment" and a "world first." Frydenberg told reporters Wednesday in Canberra that the deals will help sustain public interest in journalism in the country.

He also praised the Morrison government in its efforts to pass a legislation to help and frame such deals. Frydenberg added that it is helping to pave a way forward where news media businesses are getting paid for generating original journalistic content He also said he believes the deals struck between Channel 7, Channel 9 and Google were good, fair and generous.
