Bangladesh : In a striking revelation, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh 's interim government, admitted on Tuesday that the recent coup to depose Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was meticulously planned. Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Yunus introduced Mahfuz Alam, his special assistant, as the "brain" behind the student-led movement that resulted in the regime change.
Standing alongside former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Yunus praised a group of young leaders who played pivotal roles in the movement. He noted their unassuming appearance, saying, "They just look like any other young people you would not recognize, but when you see them in action when you hear them speak, you will be shaken."
He emphasized their dedication and commitment, asserting, “They said you can kill us anytime you want, but we are not giving up.”
Yunus elaborated on the strategic nature of the movement, stating that it was not a spontaneous uprising but a “well-coordinated” effort.
“It is an amazingly meticulously designed thing. It is not something that suddenly came. Even the leadership doesn’t know who the leaders are, so you can’t catch one. It’s completely diverse. They are Bangladesh , and they are the ones creating the new version of Bangladesh ,” he declared.
Yunus called for global support for these young leaders, urging attendees to pray for their success.
