Dhaka: Banglesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday, ending 15 years in power as thousands of protesters defied a military curfew and stormed her official residence. Shortly after local media showed embattled leer boarding a military helicopter with her sister, Banglesh’s military chief, Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman, announced plans to seek president's guidance on forming an interim government.

He promised that military would stand down, initiate an investigation into dely crackdowns that sparked outrage against government, and asked citizens for time to restore peace. He said, "Keep faith in military, we will investigate all killings and punish responsible. I have ordered that no army and police will indulge in any kind of firing.”

Reacting to Banglesh protests, UN Rights Chief Volker Turk urged government to end "shocking violence" and get situation back to normal as soon as possible.

" government must cease targeting those participating peacefully in protest movement, immediately release those arbitrarily detained, restore full internet access, and create conditions for meaningful dialogue."

UN Rights Chief furr said, “ continuing effort to suppress popular discontent, including through excessive use of force, and deliberate spre of misinformation and incitement to violence, must immediately cease.”

  • Internet Services Suspended, Curfew Imposed

Mobile internet services in parts of Banglesh have been suspended and a curfew was announced in Dhaka to shut down protests in country. curfew starts at 6 pm and will continue indefinitely.

  • MEA Issues visory:

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), on Sunday, issued an visory urging Indians to avoid travelling to Banglesh, in wake of ongoing violent protests.

"All Indian nationals presently in Banglesh are vised to exercise extreme caution, restrict ir movements and remain in contact with High Commission of India in Dhaka through ir emergency phone numbers- 8801958383679, 8801958383680, 8801937400591," it said.

 

 

  • 14 officials are among nearly 100 killed. Of 14, 13 were killed in Sirajganj's Enayetpur police station. Meanwhile, over 300 police personnel were injured.
  • At least 98 people have been killed in clashes, shootings and counter-chases across Banglesh, PTI reported quoting Bengali-language newspaper Prothom Alo.

 

A fresh round of clashes erupted in Banglesh over weekend after nearly 100 people were killed while hundreds of ors suffered injuries after clashes broke out between protesters and ruling party Awami League's supporters. protesters gared in different parts of country demanding Sheikh Hasina's resignation. Following violence, Bangleshi authorities were forced to cut off internet across country and impose a nationwide indefinite curfew.

clashes broke out after protesters attending non-cooperation programme under Students Against Discrimination demanding Hasna to resign faced opposition from supporters of Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League activists.

This comes days after more than 200 people were killed in violent clashes between police and mostly student protesters demanding an end to controversial "quota system" that reserved almost 30 per cent of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in Banglesh's War of Independence in 1971. Since n, more than 11,000 people have been arrested.
