Bangladesh thanks India for Gandhi Peace Prize to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman

A day after government of India conferred Gandhi Peace Prize for year 2020 on Banglesh's 'Far of Nation' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman posthumously, neighbouring nation on Tuesday released a statement expressing deep gratitude. statement released by Banglesh Foreign Ministry in Dhaka ackwledged India's move as "an hour for Banglesh."

"It is an hour for Banglesh and its people for Far of Nation to be bestowed with this prestigious award (Gandhi Peace Prize). award is also a befitting tribute to ever-deepening Banglesh-India relations," ministry's statement re. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman played a vibrant role in Civil war that led to independence of Banglesh from Pakistan on March 26, 1971, whereafter he was first me Prime Minister of country. He is kwn as Banglesh's 'Far of Nation'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also ackwledged that "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman was one of greatest leers of our subcontinent. 2020 marked birth centenary of Bangabandhu. He remains an icon of indomitable cour and tireless struggle for his millions of mirers."
Banglesh will be hosting a 10-day-event celebrating 50 years of Independence. celebrations have started from March 17 and PM Modi is slated to travel to Banglesh on March 25-26 where he will also be a part of celebrations on birth anniversary of nation's founding far Sheikh Mujibur Rehman. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar referring to PM Modi's Banglesh visit was quoted by PTI as saying that "This visit is in connection with commemoration of three epochal events - Mujib Borsho, birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; 50 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Banglesh; and 50 years of Banglesh's war of liberation."
