Beer maker unveils environment-friendly bottles made of paper

Carlsberg revealed that it will sell bottles made of paper to cut down the usage of plastic for its packaging making it the first of its kind in the world.

Leading brewing company Carlsberg revealed that it will sell beer bottles made of paper to cut down the usage of plastic for its packaging. The beer brand on October 10 made the announcement at the C40 World Mayors Summit in Copenhagen. It is working two new recyclable prototypes of the sustainably-sourced wood fibre bottle it aims to bring to the market with time. Carlsberg says one of the versions is lined with a thin film of recycled PET plastic to prevent the beer from leakage. The second one will have completely bio-based lining. The two will be tested to see if the new packaging is good enough to be brought to the market.

A step towards a safer environment

Carlsberg group's Myriam Shingleton said in a statement that the company continues to innovate across all packaging styles, so they are glad to announce their development on the Green Fibre Bottle. She said that the company's final goal is to bring these prototypes to the market as a significant step towards a safer and greener environment. The statement said such innovation takes time and they have collaborated with top experts to get rid of the leftover technical challenges. The Danish beer company said that Absolut, Coca-Cola, and L'Oréal have joined the efforts for developing a durable paper packaging.

The Green Fibre Bottle

The paper bottles are the company's commitment to a programme called Together Towards ZERO which has its aim to have zero carbon emissions at its breweries included and 30 per cent reduction in total by 2030. The image of the Green Fibre Bottle surfaced online and went viral on social media. The Carlsberg group too tweeted a picture unveiling its Green Fibre Bottle prototypes containing beer. It will be the first paper beer bottles in the world.
