Belarusian opposition leader to address French parliament amid unrest

Macron urged Belarus authorities to stop committing human rights abuse and unlawful arrests against citizens after "high profile" meeting with Tikhanovskaya.

On September 28, Belarusian opposition leer, Svetlana Tikhavskaya met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Vilnius, Lithuania on second day of his visit to Baltic countries to reassure France’s security commitments, an Elysée official confirmed, according to a Politico report. Tikhavskaya is expected to dress France's parliament, as she told local media reporters that French President agreed to negotiate with Belarus and secure release of demonstrators amid Belarus’ political crisis. Tikhavskaya h fled into exile in Vilnius over fear of detention by disputed Belarusian leer Alexander Lukashenko. 

In what is being called as one most “high-profile” meeting between Belarusian opposition leer and France’s President, European nation agreed to be a political mediator and help resolve political fallout in Belarus. In a press dress, Macron urged Belarus authorities to stop committing human rights abuse and unlawful arrests against citizens and demanded immediate release of arbitrarily detained protesters by Belarusian security forces.

He furr demanded autocratic leer to “hour” will of people and respect elections. Belarusian opposition leer h also dressed UN Human Rights Council and European Parliament asking European countries’ ministers for Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mediation for situation in Belarus.

“We h a very good discussion. w we need to be pragmatic and to support Belarus people and we will do all that,” AP quoted Macron.

Earlier, Belarus security forces me detention of hundreds of protesters after y flooded streets in a “people’s inauguration of real president” Tikhavskaya rally, voicing support of opposition leer Svetlana Tikhavskaya. Officers in riot gear fired stun grenes and tear has to disperse mob, and dragged scores of demonstrators into van, according to Associated Press’ sources.

Citizens demanded authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko's ouster for 50th consecutive day into seventh week. French President Emmanuel Macron asked Lukashenko to “step down” citing humanitarian crisis at civilian's protests, as he said in a press conference that Belarus leer “must go.”Macron said re was a power crisis in Belarus with an authoritarian ministration that is t able to accept logic of democracy.
