Berlin climate protest given lockdown twist

The student group Fridays for Future, whose street protests inspired by Greta Thunberg drew huge crowds worldwide before the coronavirus, have been finding creative ways to continue protesting despite the lockdown.

In Berlin, activists on Friday collected thousands of banners and protest placards, and placed m at key sites around German capital's government district.

Pauline Daemgen, of Fridays for Future Germany, said ir weekly school strikes had been confined to internet since lockdown started.

But she said it was essential to maintain pressure on world leaders to curb global warming.

Thunberg said Wednesday during an online event for Earth Day that climate crisis "may t be as immediate as corona crisis but we need to tackle this w orwise it will be irreversible."
