Biden Hails PM Modi's Ukraine Visit, Reiterates Continued Support for 'Peaceful Resolution'

New Delhi: Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited war-torn Ukraine, US President Joe Biden lauded his efforts towards restoring peace in the region. Biden commended Prime Minister Modi "historic visits" to Poland and Ukraine during their telephonic call on Monday, the White House said in a statement.
The two top leaders discussed PM Modi's trip to two European countries and the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings scheduled to take place in September.
"US President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke today with PM Modi of India to discuss the Prime Minister’s recent trip to Poland and Ukraine, as well as the United Nations General Assembly meetings in September. The President commended the Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades, and for his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine, including its energy sector," the statement read.
PM Modi and President Biden reiterated their continued support for a "peaceful resolution" of the conflict "in lines with international law, on the basis of the UN Charter."
"The Leaders affirmed their continued support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in accordance with international law, on the basis of the UN Charter," the statement further read.
They also underlined their continued dedication to work together, including through regional groups like the Quad, to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
Taking to X, Biden tweeted, “I spoke with Prime Minister Modi to discuss his recent trip to Poland and Ukraine, and commended him for his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine. We also affirmed our commitment to work together to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
"While discussing the situation in Ukraine, the Prime Minister briefed President Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine. He reiterated India's consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for early return of peace and stability," the statement read.
The conversation took place days after PM Modi's visit to Poland and Ukraine. PM Modi visited Ukraine on Friday last week, the first by an Indian PM to the European nation.
