US President Joe Biden met China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi as the two countries seek to smooth ties ahead of a possible visit by Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

US President Joe Biden met China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi as two countries seek to smooth ties ahe of a possible visit by Chinese leer Xi Jinping. According to ministration spokesman John Kirby, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and national security viser Jake Sullivan were also present.

US and China relations: A way forward

While talking about meeting, Kirby said that US President Biden has considered meeting as "a positive development, and a good opportunity to keep conversation going." relationship between two superpowers has been going through a rough patch. Wang has come to Washington at a time when tensions between two countries remain high which includes US export controls on vanced technology and China's more assertive actions in East and South China seas. Notably, Bejing has not yet confirmed if Xi will travel to San Francisco for annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit next month.

Earlier, citing impact of US-China relations on world peace and development, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Beijing is rey to work with Washington, to "properly manage differences", contribute to each or's progress and push for common prosperity, reported Chinese state media agency Xinhua. Furr, Xi also remarked that China is willing to work with US based on three principles of "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation".
