Boeing reveals voluntary layoff plan for employees amid coronavirus crisis

Boeing on April 2 unveiled a voluntary layoff plan for its employees citing the crisis the aviation industry is expected to face due to coronavirus outbreak.

Boeing on April 2 unveiled a voluntary layoff plan for its employees citing crisis aviation industry is expected to face due to coronavirus outbreak. company is alrey suffering from losses after it h to withdraw its 737 MAX airliner from market following two fatal crashes, said that it is doing everything to protect future of its business. Boeing President and CEO Dave Calhoun wrote a letter to company's employees where he outlined voluntary layoff (VLO) plan.

letter from Calhoun re, "But one thing is alrey clear: It will take time for aero industry to recover from crisis. When world emerges from pandemic, size of commercial market and s of products and services our customers want and need will likely be different. We will need to balance supply and demand accordingly as industry goes through recovery process for years to come."

"It's important we start justing to our new reality w. We want to dress it through natural turver and voluntary employment actions to extent we responsibly can. To that end, we are initiating a voluntary layoff (VLO) plan that allows eligible employees who want to exit company to do so with a pay and benefits pack. This move aims to reduce need for or workforce actions," letter furr stated.

Media reports suggest that global airline industry is on verge of collapse because of lockdown imposed in various countries. In United States, airline companies h asked ministration for a stimulus pack of about $50 billion in order to save highly affected industry.

Coronavirus outbreak

COVID-19 has claimed more than 49,000 lives across world and has infected over 9,62,000 people globally since it first broke out in December 2019. China was most affected country until last week before Italy and Spain surpassed it to record most number of deaths anywhere in world due to COVID-19. United States and France are on verge of overtaking China in terms of number of deaths recorded in se countries. virus is believed to have originated from a seafood market in China's Wuhan city, epicentre of disease, where animals were reportedly being tred illegally.
