Brazilian leer has insisted on ecomic development of region, drawing condemnation from environmentalists, climate scientists and foreign leers who say forest is an important carbon sink and must remain standing to achieve climate change goals.
Bolsonaro has repeatedly accused unnamed imperialist forces of trying to take over Amazon, which harkens back to stance of 1964-1985 military dictatorship.

During Tuesday's debate, Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden said Brazil's rainforests are being torn down.
