Bolsonaro weighs on vaccines and hydroxychloroquine

Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday reiterated his view that the drug hydroxychloroquine, whose effectiveness for the coronavirus has been widely questioned, helped him when he contracted the virus.

Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday reiterated his view that drug hydroxychloroquine, whose effectiveness for coronavirus has been widely questioned, helped him when he contracted virus.

Speaking in Brasilia ahe of his first trip away since recovering from COVID-19, Bolsonaro said drug h been prescribed by a doctor and when he took it, it me him feel better next day.

"Next day (after taking medicine) I was fine, if it was a coincidence or t I don't kw but it ( hydroxychloroquine) worked," he said.

He ded that or ministers in his cabinet h experienced similar positive results from taking anti-malaria drug.

Bolsonaro said he intended to travel Brazil after beating disease, which h kept him confined to presidential residence for more than two weeks.

president has downplayed virus’ severity, even after he was infected, arguing against restrictions on ecomic activity he claims will prove far more damaging than disease.

His approach to pandemic runs counter to most health experts’ prescriptions and is disapproved of by majority of Brazilians, according to recent opinion polls.
