Brazil has deployed thousands of soldiers to protect the Amazon rainforest as the Jair Bolsonaro led government mounts early response to surging deforestation.

Brazil has deployed thousands of soldiers to protect Amazon rainforest as Jair Bolsonaro led government mounts an early response to surging deforestation in nation. Brazil's Vice-President Hamilton Maurao speaking at a news briefing, on May 12,  said that armed forces along with environmental officials, police and government ncies h begun with an operation in Rondonia state. Last year, a devastating forest fire charred millions of hectares of Amazon rainforests.

"We don't want to be labelled by rest of world as an environmental villain," Mourao ded.

Meanwhile, country Defence minister Fernando Azevedo, revealed that Brazillian armed forces would establish a base in three ‘Amazon cities’. He ded that 3,800 troops have been mobilised, costing an estimated $10 million, against illegal logging and or crimes. deployment has reportedly been sanctioned by Brazilain president.

He also said that owing to current coronavirus pandemic, each base has also been assigned five specialists in chemical warfare to help avoid spre of vel coronavirus. According to reports, military is currently deployed for a period of 30 days till June 30 which could be extended as dry season approaches.

"We have doubt this problem will continue to exist. We don't consider this best job for armed forces, to be always engd in this of action, but unfortunately, it's means we have to limit se crimes from happening", he said at press briefing. 

Meanwhile, Muro remarked that armed forces will continue to be used until environmental ncies, like main enforcement ncy Ibama, are able to increase ir staff. An ecomic downturn and budget restrictions have prevented Ibama from hiring new nts, international media reported.
