Brazilian priest brings stray dogs to mass, hopes to get them adopted

In the city of Gravata, Brazil a priest is trying to find homes for stray dogs by inviting them into his church in the hope that families will adopt them. Father João Paulo de Araujo Gomes, who is the head of the parish of Santana, is housing stray dogs in his rectory away from the dangers of the streets. He brings stray dogs to the church service every Sunday in hopes that they will be adopted by a loving family. 

The Brazilian priest's small action has made a big difference for the neglected dogs. The sight of so many street dogs roaming on roads had Father Gomes worried. An ardent animal-lover, he knew how difficult the lives of these abandoned animals around the city is. Reportedly, he has also welcomed stray dogs in his home and nursed the critically ill animals himself. He told an international media outlet that he started adopting mistreated animals. He along with some volunteers have also placed feeders outside the church for the dogs.

Good deeds

Gomes' good deeds have recently earned him a lot of social media attention as well. A photo of him conducting mass with a stray dog by his side has gone viral on the internet. He said that caring for animals and nature as a whole is a great gesture of love for God, humanity and the planet. He says that people need to develop compassion. Gomes hopes that his actions will further raise awareness and inspire others around him to take care of the stray and make the world a better place.
