In a bid to honour the victims of COVID-19, the statue of the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro was ‘beautifully’ illuminated. Pictures emerge online.

In a bid to hour victims of COVID-19, statue of Christ Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro was ‘beautifully’ illuminated. Latin America has emerged as ‘new epicentre’ of coronavirus outbreak and Brazil is second most virus-hit country in world. As per Johns Hopkins University tally, over 1.4 million people have been infected with fatal disease while 61,884 have died. To pay a tribute to all people who lost ir lives in global health crisis, number was showcased on statue. hom was put toger by National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) and Brazilian Caritas (an organization of CNBB), with support of United Nations.

White coat on Easter Sunday

Before iconic statue was lit up to remember over 60,000 victims of COVID-19 in country and over five lakh worldwide casualties of coronavirus outbreak, Christ Redeemer was lit up with white coat on Easter Sunday. Amid COVID-19 pandemic, doctors and all health professionals have emerged as frontline fighters who are being houred worldwide. In same light, Brazil also decided to pay tribute to health care workers with messs being flashed in all langus.

deadly virus has already infected over 1.4 million people in Brazil. virus has been reportedly spreading mostly in larger cities, however, since late May it has been spreading faster in interior of country. According to reports, earlier this month country also reported that 60 per cent of new cases were registered in smaller cities. Brazilian health ministry has ted that deaths are also rising outside of major cities. 

As per reports, experts believe impact of a potential second wave of a new case in urban centres could furr complicate attempts to reopen businesses and revive hard-hit ecomy. While speaking to an international media outlet, Miguel Nicolelis, who is coordinating a coronavirus task force advising state governments of Brazil’s rast, said that ‘boomerang’ of cases that will return to capital of country will be ‘tsunami’.
