Dhammika Niroshana, the former captain of Sri Lanka's under-19 cricket team, was shot dead on Tuesday night at his residence on Kanda Mawatha in Ambalangoda. According to local reports, Niroshana was at home with his wife and two children when the shooting occurred.
The attacker reportedly used a 12-bore firearm. Police swiftly arrived at the scene and have sent Niroshana’s body for an autopsy. As of now, no further details regarding the incident have been released.

Niroshana was widely recognized as one of Sri Lanka's top pace bowling all-rounders during his youth cricket career. He notably led a talented group of players, including Farvez Maharoof, Angelo Mathews, and Upul Tharanga. Despite his promising start, he retired from the sport at the age of 20.
Throughout his career, Niroshana participated in 12 first-class matches and 8 List A games for Galle Cricket Club between 2001 and 2004. He was a versatile all-rounder, amassing over 300 runs and taking 19 wickets.

Niroshana made his debut for Sri Lanka’s under-19 team in 2000 and played several under-19 Tests and ODIs during the subsequent two years.
