New York: At least nine people were injured and dozens of flights were canceled and delayed after a fire broke out at JFK Airport in New York on Wednesday. The incident occurred when an escalator caught fire at Wednesday morning, leading to the temporary shutdown of Terminal 8.
According to the officials of the New York fire department, the fire broke out at 7 AM in the morning.

After the incident, JFK Airport’s Terminal 8 was briefly evacuated.
The airport authority briefed that flight operations resumed by 8:15 AM. Steve Burns, a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said four people were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

A video posted by a passenger on the social media platform X shows firefighters rushing to the scene of the blaze.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Airlines including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas operate from Terminal 8 of JFK Airport.
