Quetta: As many as 27 people were killed and 60 others sustained injuries in an explosion at Quetta Railway Station in Pakistan 's Balochistan province on Saturday. According to media reports, the explosion occurred at the railway station's booking office just before a train arrived at the platform.
The blast incident prompted an emergency situation across several hospitals.
Soon after the blast, the Baloch Liberation Army, a militant separatist group in Pakistan , took responsibility for the explosion. The militant group said the blast, carried out by its Fidayee unit, was targeted at the Pakistani Army unit who was returning via Jaffer Express after completing a course at the Infantry school.
“This morning, a Fidayee attack was carried out on a Pakistani army unit at Quetta Railway Station as they were returning via Jaffer Express after completing a course at the Infantry School. The attack was executed by the BLA's Fidayee unit, Majeed Brigade. Details will soon be released to the media,” read a press release issued in the name of BLA Spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch.
The Jaffer Express was scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9am, sources, citing railway officials, reported.
