A rocket launched from the Gaza Strip landed in the Mediterranean Sea off Tel Aviv on Tuesday, according to the Israeli military. The rocket did not cause any damage or injuries, but its launch marked the first attack on Tel Aviv by Hamas in months.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the projectile fell in the maritime zone of central Israel. Simultaneously, another rocket was detected but did not enter Israeli territory. The incident occurred amidst heightened tensions and security concerns in the region.
Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they fired two M90 rockets at Tel Aviv in retaliation for Israeli actions against civilians and the displacement of Palestinians. This escalation follows a period of relative calm in attacks on the Israeli commercial hub.
The attack comes as Israel remains on high alert for potential retaliatory strikes by Iran and its allies, following recent targeted killings of senior figures from Hamas and Hezbollah.
