In a shocking lapse of safety, a Japanese bullet train on Wednesday was forced to make an emergency stop after it was found hurtling at 280 kmph with a door open for 4 km, as per international news reports. It was found that a cleaner had left a door open while performing his duties as per reports. Reports say that the high-speed train was travelling from Sendai to Tokyo and the train was brought to a halt inside a tunnel in Shibata. East Japan Railway Company, the operator of the bullet train has stated that none of the 340 passengers were hurt.

Train travels with door open

Detailing the incident, a local Japanese newspaper - The Mainichi had reported that the first observer of the open door was a train conductor in the bullet train -  Hayabusa No 46. The paper reports that the cleaner had forgotten to press close on the device that opened and closed the door. The door was reportedly left open for 40 seconds. But luckily, no passenger was standing near the door, as per reports.

The overloaded auto

In a similar safety incident in India, a  viral video tweeted by Karimnagar police on 11 August shows an overcrowded auto endangering passengers. In the video, a whopping 24 women and children are seen descending from an autorickshaw in Bhongir, Telangana.  The video also features the smiling autorickshaw driver standing beside his 'magical vehicle'. He was stopped by the police for overloading his auto.

The video shows the police rebuking the auto driver. Then he goes to ask to deboard the passengers which reveal an apparently endless stream of passengers. The video comes days after the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill was passed in Rajya Sabha. The bill aims to improve road safety by tightening rules and increasing penalties. Netizens have been left aghast at the carelessness of the auto driver.
