According to Canada’s public broadcaster CBC News, Justin Trudeau is all set to form the government again. His Liberal Party is expected to win in at least 157 out of 338 electoral districts as per the figures released after the polling stations closed. CBC News has indicated that it would be a minority government, despite the Liberal Party bagging most of the seats in Atlantic Canada. Later, speaking at the Liberal Party headquarters on Tuesday, Canada Prime Minister Trudeau complimented his fellow countrymen for the victory. Reiterating that he would serve the people till his last breath, he said that he took this responsibility seriously. Moreover, he promised to work for even those people who did not vote for the Liberal Party.

Conservatives behind in the race
The Canada Parliament has 338 seats and the party winning a majority of them, can easily be in a position to form the government. However, opinion polls predicted that no party would win a majority in this election. Seen as a litmus test for Trudeau’s leadership, a neck-to-neck fight had been projected between his party and the Conservative Party led by Andrew Scheer, who is also the Leader of Opposition. As of now, the Conservatives are leading or winning in only 121 electoral districts. Also, the Bloc Quebecois recovered from a disastrous 2015 election result, taking a lead in 32 seats, while the New Democratic Party (NDP) is ahead in 25 seats.

The election campaign
In the last 40 days, both the parties crisscrossed the country and focused on areas such as Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia where the swing voters can play a big role. Trudeau faced a challenging campaign due to the ethical lapses in the handling of the bribery prosecution of engineering giant SNC-Lavalin. Moreover, his old photographs of him in blackface makeup added to his troubles. At the same time, Scheer struggled to win over the Canadians due to the proposed austerity measures of his party.
