Canada raises objection at US' decision to deploy troops on border amid COVID-19 outbreak

Prime Minister of Canada was responding to Pentagon’s non-bilateral decision to send over 1,500 troops to Canadian border to intercept illegal migrants.

Canian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reportedly objected to United States’ decision to deploy US military forces on Canian border to step up efforts to combat vel coronavirus pandemic. Cana urged Donald Trump ministration to consider keeping world’s longest border 8,900 kilometres (5,500 miles) unmilitarised, which he said, was in both nation’s interest. 

During a press conference, Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, said that Prime Minister of Cana was responding to news of Pentagon’s n-bilateral decision to send over 1,500 troops to Canian border to intercept illegal migrants, which, United States said were being deployed to assist Customs and Border Protection operations. Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland rebuked plans of White House officials for military deployment on long-sealed border.

Cana rejected US' claims

At press briefing, Trudeau clarified disagreement saying that Cana and United States have longest unmilitarized border in world, and he would like it to remain that way. Earlier, prior to  Pentagon's anuncement about decision, Canian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked about development during a press conference held on March 26 from Ottawa, US media reported. It said that Cana’s ministration h been "in discussions" with US. However, Cana has refused to have agreed on those terms, as per media reports. 

Canian Prime Minister was also quoted citing safety concerns for Quebec and Ontario, Canian provinces that border state of New York, US. At news briefing, he was asked if Cana was considering border closure with two states, to which, Trudeau replied saying that his government would continue to explore ways to ensure that y were keeping all Canians safe. He furr ded that supply of food, medical supplies, and supply of necessary equipment across border to those states was a part of crisis response. Meanwhile, Cana has recorded over 4,043 confirmed cases of vel coronavirus, and 39 fatalities.
