The 24-year-old man who went on a stabbing spree in Canada's Quebec City on Halloween night wanted to kill as many as possible, said City Police Chief.

24-year-old man who went on a stabbing spree in Cana's Quebec City on Halloween night wanted to kill as many as possible, said City Police Chief Robert Pigeon. man identified as Carl Girouard, dressed in medieval clothing and armed with a sword-like weapon, killed two people on October 31 and injured at least five ors near Parliament Hill in historic Old Quebec neighbourhood. attacker was later arrested near E 400e business park in Quebec City shortly before 1:00 a.m.

According to Cana's state-owned channel CBC, Girouard me an appearance before a judge via video conferencing on Sunday, where he was charged with two counts of homicide and five counts of attempted murder. Quebec City police Chief confirmed that Girouard has links with any terrorist group, ding gruesome attacks he carried out on Saturday were premeditated and he apparently chose his victims randomly. Pigeon informed that Girouard h talked about carrying out a violent act five years ago in a "medical context".

'Support & sympathies to victims'

two people who were killed on Saturday night were identified by City police as Francois Duchesne, 56, and Suzanne Clermont, 61. police in a statement reiterated its support and sympathies for victims and those close to victims of tragic event that occurred on October 31 in Old Quebec area.

Canian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to his official Twitter handle to condemn attack and also wished injured full recovery. Prime Minister thanked all first responders, who provided critical help in le up to attack. Cana's Public Security Minister said she was devasted when she first learned about attack on Sunday morning. National Assembly of Cana lowered its flag to half-mast in hour of victims.
