A resident of Michigan, Carlos Orosco, took part in his first marathon after losing 475 pounds from a total of 650 pounds in a span of 3 years. Orosco started his weight loss journey three years ago in 2016 with a gastric sleeve surgery and a promise to being fit and ultimately came down to a total of 167 pounds. Although, he completed his journey of losing weight and the marathon with a few issues that bothered him after his operation.
"I wasted a lot of time and let opportunities pass by"
While speaking to an international media outlet, Carlos said that he wasted a lot of time while he was fat and let a lot of opportunities pass by because he was not able to do the things that he really wanted to and led him down the path of getting fit. He added that things were very different for him now as he was able to do things for himself without worrying about his health.

An eyeopener for Carlos
There were two very important events in his life that led him to take hold of his life and work towards improving his health. The first event was when his doctor warned him that his "life expectancy" was a little bit doubtful and the second event was when he came to know that his sister was expecting a child.
Carlos said that he realized the responsibility he held as uncle toward his sister's to be born baby and that he needed to do something very soon in order to stay around for a long time, calling this event an eyeopener for him.

The first step he took in his journey of his was to lose about 100 pounds undergoing the knife for gastric sleeve surgery. After that Orosco completely changed his diet by staying away from fried foods, alcohol and aerated drinks.

A daily walk and a healthy diet
After the weight loss surgery, Carlos went out for a walk every day and took a diet that was healthy for his health and led to a steady loss in his weight. It was in 2017 when he ran his first 5-kilometer race in the honor of a family friend who had recently passed away. The native of Saginaw county stated that he really liked the experience of running and it completely got him hooked on to the idea of running this kind of race.
He started running 10k marathons and then recently completed the 26.2 miles Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Marathon. Carlos stated that it was very difficult for him emotionally and mentally as he completed the marathon in a clocked time of 31:14 minutes.
Friend helped him finish marathon
It was Orosco's friend Katelyn Trepkowski who helped him finish the marathon. Carlos added that he got dehydrated towards the end of the race and that prompted Katelyn to run ahead and grab him water from the setup aid station.
Trepkowski and Orosco hugged each other as they crossed the finish line but he found other people coming in to hug him as well such as the people who had worked with him at a gym where he had started going to lose weight.
Carlos said that it was an overwhelming experience for him as he was clueless about the outcome that made him nervous, scared and excited at the same time. He also added that his entire body was aching but that did not matter as the experience that he went through from losing weight to running the marathon was completely worth it.
